Equine Gestalt Coaching Method
What is the EGCMethod?
The Equine Gestalt Coaching Method® (EGCMethod) was developed by Melisa Pearce, a core founder since 1989, of the horse-human healing movement. The experiential nature of the method involves the horse as an active partner with the coach in the client’s exploratory process. The integrative approach of the equine’s interaction combined with positive coaching, somatic awareness, guidance and Gestalt methodology, assist the client in examining their life and choices made with a focus on designing a positive future.
All the answers you need are within you.
Gestalt, the German word for wholeness, is the center of the Equine Gestalt Coaching Method (EGCMethod). I have studied with the founder of the EGCMethod, Melisa Pearce, for over two years to learn how to partner with horses — who are masters of Gestalt themselves — to help others discover their authentic selves.
An EGCMethod session begins with a step into what may feel like the unknown. I assure you, however, all the answers you are seeking are already within you. During our session, the horses and I will guide you toward discovering what you already know and integrating that experience into your life in a way that feels authentic and healthy.
I find this short video helps explain how The Method works:
There is no riding. You do not need horse experience to participate. You can benefit even if you’re not drawn to horses or find them inspirational.
Sessions take place in a round pen or arena where the horse will be at liberty and free to offer their guidance when and how they see fit. You may or may not be in direct contact with the horse, depending on how comfortable you are with being in close proximity to them. We can complete your session inside or outside the pen — although being in contact with the horse is a powerful and awesome way to integrate your experience.
EGCMethod sessions are not planned — they happen in the present, and often go exactly where you need to be, which is not always where you thought you’d begin or end. Because we are each unique individuals with our unique histories, it is a true journey of self discovery, one filled with your own wisdom and purpose.
“Forget your perfect offering, there is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.”
Meet the horses …
Woody is a handsome, often humorous, cute bay Appendix-half thoroughbred, half quarter horse-who, at twenty eight, has a wealth of experience and wisdom to share. He’s been a fox hunter, outfitters pack horse (a job he did not enjoy) and my daughter’s 4H and Rodeo horse. He’s seen a lot and been through a lot, some of which was not pleasant. But Woody has a beautiful kind heart and spirit, and though not always a touchy-feely kinda guy, he has the patience of a saint and is quietly responsive and willing to help humans in their journey of healing and self discovery. He has taught me to listen deeply, shown me appropriate boundaries and held space for myself and others, responding with mutual love and respect. Woody is great at grounding energy and balancing chakras. He’s been our beloved horse for 14 years.
Skye is named after the Isle of Skye, my ancestral home. He’s a stunning 13 year old chestnut and white registered Paint Quarter Horse, who grew up on a 10,000 acres ranch with a herd of 90 horses. He’s had his share of trauma the first eight years of his life and can therefore zero in like a laser beam to a persons’ feelings and energy. When I am out of alignment, he lets me know right away. A highly sensitive, vigilant being, not unlike mustangs raised in the wild, together we have built a language of deep abiding love, trust, healing and protection from the inside out. He is a master at reading people, and clearly lets them know if they are, or are not, being congruent and authentic, so they can recalibrate and own or find their truth. He continues to be one of my greatest and most beloved teachers of the lessons I need to learn and heal from.
